Our Covenant

We, the members of All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church of Greenfield, covenant to unite as a community guided by the principles and purposes of our faith. Sustained by mutual commitment, understanding, trust, respect, forgiveness and honesty, we offer and receive personal truths and actions as shared ministry. Guided by our collective inspiration, we will invite each other to participate fully in congregational life and to grow and learn together in faith and love.

We pledge to ourselves and others:

  • to support the personal and spiritual growth of our members, children and friends
  • to respect individuality and make room for different beliefs, striving to connect with the human spirit in each person
  • to joyfully welcome all people and their gifts, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, class, age or health status
  • to practice loving-kindness, sharing our joys and supporting each other in times of need
  • to dedicate our hearts, minds and time to guiding our children in the ways of our faith and the many paths of understanding
  • to assume that we each act and speak with good intentions
  • to be mindful of the ebb and flow of life commitments and the need to share and accept responsibility
  • to commit ourselves to honest dialog; agree to listen, clarify and respond with an open mind and heart
  • to accept conflict as an opportunity to strengthen or heal relationships as we:
  • express our differences openly and respectfully s involved before speaking to others
  • offer real solutions in ways that are constructive and not judgmental
  • get help from leadership to manage unresolved conflict for the greater good

We pledge to our congregation:

  • to support each other as we strive to honor this covenant in all church meetings, communications, and activities
  • to step up to opportunities, follow through with our commitments, ask for help when necessary, and offer others guidance and the opportunity to serve
  • to be transparent in our communications, sharing information about our decisions, plans, actions, and outcomes among committees, groups, staff and the congregation as a whole
  • to recognize that we are keepers of the flame, honoring our Unitarian Universalist heritage and its faith traditions, principles and purposes

We pledge to the larger community:

  • to promote social justice and responsible stewardship
  • to walk the path of compassion, respect, and tolerance as grounded in our Unitarian Universalist principles and purposes and this covenant

In support of our shared ministry, accepting responsibility for the spiritual, emotional and financial health of this church, we agree to contribute our time, talent and treasure to the best of our ability. Thus do we covenant together.
