Wednesday, September 29 2010, 12:15pm - 12:45pm

They will play compositions by Paul Hindemith, Claude Debussy, Zeke Hecker and Wayne Barlow. The concert is free but donations in support of the Mid-Week Music series are appreciated.

Zeke Hecker was born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1947, and attended the Lawrenceville School and Harvard College. He lives in Guilford, Vermont, and taught English at Brattleboro Union High School from 1971 until his retirement in 2004. A former representative of the Met School Membership Program, he has written study guides to more than 100 broadcast operas for the Metropolitan Opera website and led teacher workshops at the Met. He is co-founder of Friends of Music at Guilford, principal oboist of the Pioneer Valley Symphony, and a former director of the Consortium of Vermont Composers.  He has composed 150 works, including operas, orchestral pieces, chamber and choral music, incidental music for plays and films, and songs.

George Soulos, pianist, composer and Professor of Music coordinated the music program at Greenfield Community College from 1977 until his retirement in June 2001. Previously (1964 to 1975) he was Professor of Music at Windham College in Putney Vermont where he co-founded the Summer Collegium in Early Music with lutenist, Joseph Iadone. Mr. Soulos holds advanced degrees in piano performance and composition and has appeared as soloist with the Vermont State Symphony and Pioneer Valley Symphony. His compositions have been aired on public radio stations WVPR and WFCR. His recent composition, "Fantasy for Piano," inspired by a work of Vermont artist, Paul Stone, was given a Florida premiere in his 2007 recital at the Pinewood Estate on the grounds of the Historic Bok Sanctuary. Mr. Soulos resides in Putney Vermont with his wife, Jane, and is organist/choir director for First Church Congregational in West Brattleboro.
